Zerina Akers: A Stylist for the Icons
Zerina Akers is a New York based fashion stylist. She is more widely known for her cutting edge work styling the iconic Beyoncé.
Akers started her journey in fashion in high school where she designed and put on a show highlighting the 70 pieces she made. After graduating high school, she majored in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing at L.I.M. College. While at L.I.M. Akers got an internship at W Magazine. This was her break into the industry because soon she started doing free lance work with the magazine and others, including Harper's Baazar. In addition to freelancing, she would take assisting jobs under stylist Ray Oliveira. On those projects, he would teach and share knowledge about styling with Akers. Through Oliveira's mentorship, she was able to begin styling independently.
Through the years, Zerina Akers has made a name for herself in the fashion and styling industry. She has landed campaigns styling for Dove along with many of the celebrities we know and love. Not only is she Beyoncé's personal stylist, but Akers styled the wardrobe for Black is King, Beyoncé's visual album that released in 2020. Akers has also styled for the singing duo Chloe x Halle, New York Magazine, Flaunt Magazine, Teen Vouge, Fendi and more. Akers also has a collaboration with Bar III and Macy’s which is coming out soon. On top of her work as a stylist, she is the creator of Black Owned Everything, a resource that acts as a guide for Black Owned Businesses, specifically those in creative industries.
