Women Empowerment: Carly Cushnie, CEO and Creative Director of Cushnie
Updated: Feb 29, 2020
When we think of the fashion label Cushnie, we instantly think of high-end, fashion-forward, stylish, sleek, feminine, and modern. Indigo Blue Style embodies women empowerment, women's fashion, and health and wellness. We especially encourage supporting talented black designers. This week we are highlighting Carly Cushnie, CEO and Creative Director of Cushnie. Carly is London-born of Jamaican descent who attended Parsons School of Design in both New York and Paris where she received her BA in fashion design. For 10 years, she and her former business partner and co-founder started Cushnie et Och's. It was founded on the desire to serve the modern woman. Their beautiful designs and garments garnered a loyal following by influential women including Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Ava Duvernay, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
In 2018, Carly became the sole creative director and CEO after the departure of her co-founder. She rebranded the label simply as Cushnie. The Cushnie aesthetic embodies a refined sense of cosmopolitan minimalism and feminity. Additionally, she is determined to use her position to inspire the next generation of female designers. We love that she is teaming with The Lower East Side Girls’ Club, a charity that provides various programs across arts, sciences, leadership, entrepreneurship for underprivileged girls in the New York neighborhood. There are many obstacles with running a major fashion label, especially when you are black and a woman, but we are thrilled Carly is thriving and designing gorgeous luxury women's ready to wear pieces and bridal designs. We know this New York-based entrepreneur's talent and light will continue to do exceeding well with the bequest she has already created. Make sure you follow them on Instagram!
