Savage x Fenty: Celebrities, Diversity, and Controversy?
Rihanna and the Savage x Fenty team released their Volume 2 runway show on Amazon. We can add this show to the list of most talked about shows during this Fashion Week season. The show was about more than just sexy lingote to empower women. As always, Rihanna did not slack on the inclusivity. Not only featuring plus size women, but this time including plus size men too. The show also featured many of our favorite celebrities from Paris Hilton to Willow Smith, and Lizzo to Normani along with many musical performances.
However, the show did not go without its controversies. To start, the Muslim community expressed concerns about sacred readings being used for the show. Rihanna responded quickly expressing her deepest apologies on the over site, and that moving forward mistakes like this will not happen again. Next, a few days ago, Selah Marley, daughter of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, alleged that Rihanna and the Savage x Fenty team copied a set idea from a performance Marley produced a few years ago. Nonetheless, the show was great with its message of inclusivity and teaching everyone to value beauty in all shapes and sizes.
