NYFW: Fashion through COVID19
New York Fashion Week, one of the most anticipated fashion events in the Western Hemisphere, wrapped up this past weekend. Since the novel Corona Virus has impacted the entire world, the fashion industry has had to make many changes in order to ensure everyone remains safe and healthy. Designers around the world needed to be creative with how they showcase collections due to the limitations on large gatherings. As we all know, Fashion Weeks are huge attractions to the cities hosting them brining large crowds and hundreds of people compacted into small rooms for shows. So, since the CFDA announced that New York Fashion Week was occurring, the main question everyone had was, how was fashion week going to be held?
Well, some designers had in person shows and presentations with very limited invitation and some held virtual shows. HOWEVER, other designer decided to show their collections in the form of lookbooks. While look books are not new to the fashion industry, NYFW was the first time this method of showcasing collections was used in place of holding a show.
Of course virtual shows and look books are nothing like an actual show, but as the world continues to figure out the best ways to endure everyone’s health, what do you think about adding look books to the list of ways to present a collection? Or do you prefer virtual shows?
