Monday Motivation: Managing Your Workouts During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Remaining safe at the gym during the Corona Virus Pandemic is of the utmost importance. While some of us will opt for a home workout others can’t stay away from our local YMCA, Fitness Clubs, etc. if they are open. We understand the concern around keeping our contact with people to a safe distance . We must be Informed, Stay Calm, Take Proper Precautions, and be Empowered but not inundated.

Here are some tips for remaining safe while at the gym.

  1. Wash your hands properly before and after equpiment Use.

  2. Thoroughly wipe down equipment before and after use. Most gyms supply cleansing solution.

  3. Pack your own sanitizer wipes

  4. Maintain safe distance from other gym goers

  5. Cough or sneeze inside your elbow not your hands.

  6. No handshaking


What is coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, some causing illness in people and others circulating among animals, including camels, cats and bats.

The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new virus that causes respiratory illness in people and can spread from person-to-person. This virus was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.


What are the symptoms of coronavirus?

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath

The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying.


How can the coronavirus spread?

Human coronaviruses spread just like the flu or a cold:

  • Through the air by coughing or sneezing;

  • Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands;

  • Touching an object or surface with the virus on it;

  • Occasionally, fecal contamination.





The best way to prevent the spread of germs is hand washing ! Something we should do often even without a virus pandemic however we should step up our hand washing game.


Follow these five steps every time.

Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.

Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.

Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.

Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.

Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.


In the absence of running water and soap

use hand sanitize. You May have trouble finding it in stores so here is a DIY recipe .
