Monday Motivation: Cinnamon Buns all the flavor minus the calories


Saying goodbye to summer is bittersweet however the food in the fall and winter season can be so satisfying to the tastebuds.

The mornings begin to have a chill in the air, and we crave something warm and saccharine.

Cinnamon buns are usually a no when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle however let’s change the narrative a bit. Lifestyle enhancements are not about depriving oneself of the foods you love it’s about finding balance and making healthy alternatives.

Today we have a recipe for low calorie Cinnamon Buns That are simple and easy to make at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour

  • 1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt

  • 2 tbsp. reduced fat margarine

  • 1 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon

  • 3 tbsp. granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla

  • 3 tbsp. powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp. unsweetened almond milk

  • Optional: 2 tbsp. of pecans chopped


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a baking sheet.

  2. Combine flour and yogurt in a medium mixing bowl until ingredients are blended together and begin to form a sticky mixture.

  3. Lay dough on floured surface add additional flour to dough, as needed, while kneading. Knead dough for about 1 to 2 minutes.

  4. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough into a rectangular shape.

  5. In a small microwave safe bowl, melt margarine and add cinnamon, 1 tsp of vanilla and granulated sugar. Stir until combined and spread evenly over dough.

  6. Roll dough into a long tube shape and cut into approximately 10 rolls.

  7. Place rolls onto baking sheet and bake for about 15-17 minutes.

  8. For glaze: combine powdered sugar, almond milk and 1 tsp of vanilla. Drizzle over cinnamon rolls and sprinkle pecans on top, if desired.

  9. Great news 1 cinnamon roll contains only 95 calories !!!!!
