Dior: Cruise 2022
Last week Thursday, Dior debuted their 2022 Cruise collection at the Panathenaic Stadiums located in Athens, Greece.
Creative Director, Maria Gracia Chiuri, gave us a show initially inspired by her Pilates machine. Let’s take a moment to dissect her process. During the lockdown, Chiuri was looking for a spot in her apartment to place her Pilates machine, this brought her to the ideas of sports, movement and freedom (something we were all craving during the pandemic). Along that train of thought, she landed on the birthplace of sports in Ancient Greece, and designed the concept of collection around it.
Throughout this collection many key elements of Ancient Greek culture can be seen. There are many tunic styled gowns, billowing sleeves, pleating, drapery and even Greek inspired geometric patterns featured. Additionally, pieces have been modeled to look like Greek armour. All of these elements have a perfectly intertwined modern take. For example, not every look seems to be taken directly out of a Greek mythology book, many of the street wear looks the bridge the gap between Ancient and new. Plus, while this collection isn’t busting with tons of color, it is in no way boring. The neutral, blue and gold tones that run throughout the collection not only fit the theme but still feel creative. Another key element of this collection are the sunglasses. These bold yet chic accessories are the perfect accent piece to enjoy during the summer.
Chiuri and her team at Dior presented a beautifully detailed show and collection. What are your thoughts on the collection?
