Diane Von Furstenburg: Creating A Career of her Own
Diane von Furstenburg started her design career in 1970, just a year after marrying her first husband, Prince Egon von Furstenberg. She wanted to have a career of her own, and she has done just that! After separating from her husband, von Furstenburg moved to New York where she got the opportunity to showcase her designs in New York Fashion Week, which jumpstarted her business, Diane von Furstenburg. in 1974, von Furstenberg introduced the Jersey wrap dress to women's fashion and it is now her most influential design. The wrap dress was so successful, von Furstenburg was featured on the cover of Newsweek Magazine. Around the same time, Diane launched a fragrance line naming her first fragrance after her daughter, Tatianna.
After moving to Paris, France she started a few other businesses including a make-up line, and a publishing house. Her success from these business endeavors encouraged her to relaunch her fashion brand in 1997. During this relaunch, she reintroduced the wrap dress and also released her memoir, "Diane: A Signiture Life". To date her designs have been worn by countless influential women and celebrities including Former Fist Lady Michelle Obama, Gwyneth Paltro, Madonna, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez. von Furstenburg has also collaborated with brands like GAP kids, and CURRENT/ELLIOT. Lastly, the brands latest influential move was joining the initiative to ban the use of fur in future collections in 2018.
